Cantos de Xícaras is a “tea-play experience” born from the desire of the actress and creator of the project to revisit the many letters, songs, poetry notebooks, newspaper and magazine articles, and photographs that came into her hands through the keepsakes preserved by the women of her family. Bringing together this material with stories and treasures from other women, the work seeks to weave a patchwork quilt of rescued, recreated, revisited, and invented stories—stories carried by voices that stand on the verge of being forgotten.
synopsis
Forgotten on a dusty shelf and on the verge of being included in the division of a family’s inheritance in São Paulo, a century-old teacup decides to share its reflections with the audience and recover memories from throughout its existence.
A relic that has withstood the passage of time, it is the only survivor of a set of seven teacups to remain intact after so many decades. Realizing that it is about to be packed away, no longer takes part in the afternoon teas of the past, and is itself on the brink of oblivion, the teacup decides to revisit the many stories it has witnessed and preserved within the hollow of its porcelain.
It gives voice to the memories of the lips that once kissed it and accompanied it through countless afternoons of tea, cold evenings, and sunny mornings, with the hope that these voices may remain present for as long as the teacup itself endures through time.
