Today I soul egg, larva, pupa, butterfly…

Layers that, in themselves, speak, translate, scream, or tear through the world.

‘To my eternal beginning I want to be able to whistle my senses and fly through the beats of my drive…’

CRYSÁLYDA poetically narrates the world within, which is also home and shelter for the construction of this being that I soul. So nothing is finished, I repeat: nothing!

“For my eternal beginning, I want to be able to whistle my senses and fly through the beats of my pulse…”

CRYSÁLYDA is a solo dance project whose poetics emerge from the original work CASULO, created during the pandemic in 2021, which questions the racial identity and roots of artist Fran Menezes.

Drawing on the metamorphosis of a butterfly—from egg to larva, pupa (crysályda), and adulthood—the work poetically reveals the transformations of a trans, non-binary, Indigenous, fat, and peripheral body, a “world within” that unfolds alongside the time it took to understand itself in this world.

Engaging with themes such as gender, reconnection, and fatherhood—essential concerns within the identity of its creator—the work becomes a poetic crossing that echoes delicacies, sensations, and impulses in its commitment to being everything that it is.
