SUSTENTAÇÃO

SustentAção is a durational dance performance created and performed by three women. Moving together through urban space, they choose a route through the city to be traversed through three choreographic movements: Amparar (to shelter), Apoiar (to support), and Vingar (to avenge / to thrive).

SustentAção emerges from the experiences and concerns to which female bodies are subjected in our society, structured by patriarchal, sexist, and misogynistic ideals and practices. It is an invitation to resist what oppresses and to affirm, together, what strengthens us.

They carry themselves and one another. In the step of the present, they embrace one another with the strength of all those who live within them. Between acts of shelter and support, they affirm what allows life to persevere and vingam those of now and those who came before, walking together in the time of not succumbing.

What shelters you? Where do you find support? What within you seeks vengeance? What within you longs to thrive?

SustentAção is an action carried out by three women, in relation to other women and to the city. Through movement, it proposes possibilities for care, the sharing of strength, and other forms of encounter and exchange as strategies of resistance and openings to new worlds.

The work premiered in 2020 at the 15th Feverestival – International Theatre Festival of Campinas. In 2022, through ProAC SP Direto No. 38 (Dance category), it undertook its first tour through the cities of Campinas, Ribeirão Preto, Santos, and São Paulo. In 2023, it was presented in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul, at the invitation of Sesc Cultura MS, and in Campinas, São Paulo, where it was invited to join the official programme of the 13th Sesc Dance Biennial.
